Fishing Access Location
14th Street
Pier Hoboken ¶¶¶ |
 |
Just north of the ferry terminal.
Take Park Avenue south to 14th street. Just
keep heading east on the 14th Street viaduct
it dead ends in to this pier. On street
parking is available with meters costing 25 cents for 45 minutes. Fish for a couple of
hours for a couple of bucks. Not bad. There are hi-rise apartment building all around this
location. Great for the residents to fish. The pier is well lit in the evening. There is a
fish cleaning station right on the pier with a gazebo at the end. 38 benches give the
anglers a handy place to sit. HRFA V. President Tony Evangelista likes this new pier in
the fall. He also prefers the incoming water but give the outgoing a shot as well.

The pier decking is made...not of brick...or paving stone...or
wood. The decking floorboards are made of artificial wood material called
"Trek." It looks and feels like wood but gives you no splinters. It
is made of wood fibers and recycled plastic. Fish cleaning
stations and bait stations are placed all along the railing. |
Sandworms, clams, and cut bunker can be purchased from
Moes Tackle right up the hill from this location. Very convenient. You may need a
special extended net for hauling up that big striped bass. The pier is about ten feet
above the water. Some of the guys fabricate a net out of a de-spoked bicycle
wheel on a rope. Very clever device. The fall season has produced some big striped bass
off this pier. In November of 2001 a 34 pound 44 inch striped bass was taken off this
pier. For fish that size, you need a reel with a lot of line capacity. 17 to 30 pound test
essential. Many schoolie sized stripers in the 20 to 25 inch size will be caught but you
must be prepared for that lunker when he comes around. Bluefish, weakfish and fluke have
also been landed from this location. |

The spring of 2002 saw this location come alive for the spring spawning
run of striped bass. HRFA members often got together to meet at the 14th Street pier
for an evening of fishing. Again and again reports came in of wonderful caught and
released fish off this pier. If you live in Hoboken, this magical spot is within walking
or bicycle distance. Make the trip. Facilities for refreshments are all around
you. Restaurants and and convenience stores line the streets. It's got it
all...except parking. There is a pay-parking lot at the end of the pier if you can't
find a spot. The spring of 2002 saw this location come alive for the spring spawning run
